Lesson 5: Question-Answer Relationships (QAR) 🤔

  • 3rd Grade: TEKS 3.6(C) - Make and correct or confirm predictions using text features, characteristics of genre, and structures

  • 4th Grade: TEKS 4.6(C) - Make and correct or confirm predictions using text features, characteristics of genre, and structures

  • 5th Grade: TEKS 5.6(C) - Make and correct or confirm predictions using text features, characteristics of genre, and structures

Materials: Any text, paper/whiteboard

Duration: 20 minutes

Activity:

  • Teach students two types of questions: "Right There" (answer is directly in text) and "Think and Search" (answer requires combining information from different parts of text)

  • Read a passage together

  • Model creating one question of each type

  • Students create 2 questions (one of each type) about the text

  • Students exchange questions with a partner and answer them, citing text evidence

Assessment: Review student-generated questions and answers for appropriate difficulty and accurate text citations
