Materials: Any text, paper/whiteboard
Duration: 20 minutes
Activity:
Teach students two types of questions: "Right There" (answer is directly in text) and "Think and Search" (answer requires combining information from different parts of text)
Read a passage together
Model creating one question of each type
Students create 2 questions (one of each type) about the text
Students exchange questions with a partner and answer them, citing text evidence
Assessment: Review student-generated questions and answers for appropriate difficulty and accurate text citations
