This activity provides students who finish early with an independent, engaging reading experience that builds literacy skills.

📖 Reading Options

Choose one of these reading activities:

  • Free Choice Reading: Select a book from the classroom library or your personal collection and read silently.

  • Genre Exploration: Pick a book from a genre you don't usually read (mystery, science fiction, biography, poetry, etc.).

  • Article Reading: Choose an age-appropriate article from magazines, newspapers, or approved websites.

  • Graphic Novel/Comic: Read a graphic novel or educational comic book.

  • Poetry Collection: Read poems from a poetry anthology or collection.

📝 Reading Response Activities

After reading for 10-15 minutes, complete ONE of these response activities:

  • Summary Square: Write a 4-5 sentence summary of what you read.

  • Character Analysis: Describe a character from your reading - their traits, motivations, and actions.

  • Vocabulary Collector: Find 3-5 interesting or unfamiliar words, write their definitions, and use them in sentences.
