5th Grade: TEKS 5.8(C) - Analyze plot elements, including rising action, climax, falling action, resolution, and non-linear elements
Materials: Paper strips or index cards, any narrative text
Duration: 20 minutes
Activity:
After reading a story, have students identify 5-6 key events
Write each event on a separate paper strip (or have students do this)
Mix up the strips and have students work in pairs to put them in correct order
Discuss as a class why the sequence matters to the story
Use transition words: first, next, then, after that, finally
Assessment: Students write a brief summary using the correctly sequenced events and transition words
