Lesson 4: Sequence Scramble 📝

  • 4th Grade: TEKS 4.8(C) - Analyze plot elements, including the rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution

  • 5th Grade: TEKS 5.8(C) - Analyze plot elements, including rising action, climax, falling action, resolution, and non-linear elements

Materials: Paper strips or index cards, any narrative text

Duration: 20 minutes

Activity:

  • After reading a story, have students identify 5-6 key events

  • Write each event on a separate paper strip (or have students do this)

  • Mix up the strips and have students work in pairs to put them in correct order

  • Discuss as a class why the sequence matters to the story

  • Use transition words: first, next, then, after that, finally

Assessment: Students write a brief summary using the correctly sequenced events and transition words
