  • 3rd Grade: TEKS 3.8(A) - Infer basic themes supported by text evidence

  • 4th Grade: TEKS 4.8(A) - Infer basic themes supported by text evidence

  • 5th Grade: TEKS 5.8(A) - Infer multiple themes within and across texts using text evidence

Materials: Any narrative text, paper divided into two columns

Duration: 20 minutes

Activity:

  • Read a story or chapter together (or use a story students have already read)

  • Create a two-column chart: "Character Traits" and "Evidence from Text"

  • Model identifying one character trait and finding text evidence

  • Students work independently or in small groups to identify 2-3 more traits with evidence

  • Share findings as a class

Assessment: Review students' charts for accuracy and text evidence
